      It happens more and more that I have to split up my packages into two flows and then execute one flow dependent on a variable's value.
      Like for example if a boolean variable is true -> do one side of the package otherwise follow the other flow
      Untill now I started from an empty script task and then achieved my goal via constraints but as I want to cut out all the quick and dirty parts of my packages...
      So, should I create a custom component

    - need help on com-based custom conflict resolver Hi everyone,
      I am working on a COM-based custom conflict resolver (vb.net) for a merge replication problem that I am having. This is what I am trying to accomplish. 1. Have a Last_Upd_Dt column. 2. When there is a conflict between publisher and subscriber on a column, the winner is the most recent date in Last_Upd_Dt and want the value for that column from that source. 3. If there is no conflict on a column and the column was updated by either the publisher or subscriber, I want to keep the change made by the publisher or the subscriber. (i.e publisher made change in col #1, subscriber made change in col #2, no conflict, the resulting row will now have the col #1 value from publisher, col # 2 will have value from subscriber. Essentially merging the changes.)
      Does anyone have any examples of a COM-based Conflict Resolver that implements ICustomResolver for SQL Server 2005 Can this be done using the Business Logic Handler (examples )

Hi everyone,

We've found some problems when trying such thing. It seems that is compulsory to do via own CD/DVD.

Any comment would be very appreciated.

How are you trying to do the install If you share out the DVD/CD to a network drive and maintain the folder structures from the media, you should be able to install just fine.

Yes, be sure to follow the instructions in this KB, and you should be able to install from a network path or from a hard drive.

      i am trying to create a pull subscription to my publication using T-SQL. The pull subcription is created successfully but the problem is that data is not merged correctly. I mean when i run the agent ( despite of having data in subscription / publication ) the data is not merged and i get "No Data Needed To Be Merged" message.
      
      i run following sp in this sequence:
      
      At Subscrber:
      1 - sp_addmergepullsubscription
      2 - sp_addmergepullsubscription_agent
      
      At Publisher:
      1 - sp_addmergesubscription
      
      Again at subscriber :
      Transaction for adding merge agent job.

    - torn_page_detection vs checksum as page verifications Any have experiences with the CHECKSUM database page verification (good or bad)
      My concern is that each would be ideal for certain situations, but none have been documented. Another concern is that CHECKSUM may not catch all the exceptions that TORN_PAGE would, and vice versa.
      If I had to guess, CHECKSUM introduces a minimal CPU overhead that could be noticed with larger recordsets, but offers more overall protection.
      From Books Online:
      CHECKSUM Calculates a checksum over the contents of the whole page and stores the value in the page header when a page is written to disk. When the page is read from disk, the checksum is recomputed and compared to the checksum value stored in the page header. If the values do not match, error message 824 (indicating a checksum failure) is reported to both the SQL Server error log and the Windows event log. A checksum failure indicates an I/O path problem. To determine the root cause requires investigation of the hardware, firmware drivers, BIOS, filter drivers (such as virus software), and other I/O path components.
      TORN_PAGE_DETECTION
      Saves a specific bit for each 512-byte sector in the 8-kilobyte (KB) database page and stored in the database page header when the page is written to disk. When the page is read from disk, the torn bits stored in the page header are compared to the actual page sector information. Unmatched values indicate that only part of the page was written to disk. In this situation, error message 824 (indicating a torn page error) is reported to both the SQL Server error log and the Windows event log. Torn pages are typically detected by database recovery if it is truly an incomplete write of a page. However, other I/O path failures can cause a torn page at any time.

    - using sql-ns 2k5 -- a good investment We are contemplating using SQL-NS 2K5 as a notification engine. After putting some time into it, going thru MSDN topics, tutorial and samples, trying to map it to our needs etc, I must say the jury is still out...

      The point is that developing an NS-based application requires siginificant effort and frankly on various issues we could use some help (beyond "read Shyam's book"), and my feeling is that it is hard to get help. This is even more so considering we are developing a solution that we would like to deploy as part of our product, as opposed to doing a one time project.
      I am truely impressed with the technology and feel it is a good match to our basic needs. However, other than the book and useful MS's online resources (MSDN etc), so far I found no one to ask about architectural decisions (e.g. bridging gaps between our needs and how SQL-NS works typically), 3rd party vendors (e.g. for email, fax channels) and other important issues.
      If anyone can help or suggest additional resoures or testimonials...

    - column grand totals are incorrect for calculated fields in virtual cube Hello,
      We have migrated some cubes from sqlserver 2000 to 2005 with success. The applicaticon contains one virtual cube made up from 6 other cubes. On the virtual cube level we specified calculated fields. The calculation contains elements from different cubes which shares dimensions.
      while browsing the cube from within sql server management studio or from excel using OLEDb 9.0 Provider we discovered that the column grand totals for these calculated fields are incorrect. The row grand totals are fine.
      Searching the internet (google) i have found a hotfix describing the problem SQL MSAS 2005 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918251). We have installed this hotfix on top of SP1 but without results.
      Is somebody familiar with this problem or knows how to solve this !!!!
